Katie Oplaender

Katie Oplaender is an artist, printmaker and designer based in London. Born in Germany, Katie moved to the UK in 2010 in pursuit of an international art education. She has since graduated with a BA in Graphic Design from Central Saint Martins, College of Art and Design and recently graduated with an MA degree in Print from the Royal College of Art.

Within her work Katie deconstructs and reconstructs impressions from her environment. She is inspired by the sculptural quality of natural objects such as stones and the design and purpose of playgrounds as spaces of movement and nostalgia. The balance between shapes, colours and space is something she likes to experiment with in a playful manner.

As an artist and designer, printmaking and creating work digitally allows her the freedom to create work in a controlled process. She hopes to bridge the gap between art and design through allowing both of her practices to flow and feed into each other. Katie also won the Anise Award and will be undertaking a residency program at the gallery's partner company AVR, in Greenwich.
